THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Being needed—the knowledge that you are doing something
useful and necessary—is an essential ingredient of human happiness.
Work done well and to the best of your abilities—is one of the most satisfying
of human experiences. – Bits & Pieces

The Second Object of Kiwanis: To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Kiwanis Education #42: The first International convention staged outside the United States and Canada was in Vienna, Austria, in 1983, marking the 20th anniversary of the organization of the Vienna club, the first in Europe. The second International convention outside North America occurred in Nice, France, in 1993.

From your President:
Happy New Year!  2011 promises to be the best year yet.  Look for wonderful changes, exciting things to do and just a fun filled year.  Remember St. Martin Kiwanis is turning twenty!  We are a service organization and our community involvement is most important.  I appeal to you, the members
[I42] who are not able to attend weekly meetings to record your volunteer services and forward to our newly appointed secretary, Jean Potier at jpotier@cox.net   Those hours are most important in helping to make us an outstanding club.  We are striving for that!!!  I am looking forward to seeing you at meetings this year.
You are important to Kiwanis and we miss your presence.
- Margaret

THIS WEEK:

We’re starting 2011 off with a fun-filled bulletin for you!  Here are the details:  I’m sure you’ve noticed: (a) that you got your bulletin by mail, (b) that a bingo card was enclosed and (c) that there are weird things going on with your bulletin.  Your bulletin committee:  Marti Harrell, Peggy Hardy, and yours truly have come up with a fun game for you to participate in.  It’s called “Bulletin Bingo” and all you have to do to win is mark your card [I26] with the bingo numbers found in different areas of your bulletin each week.  When you ‘bingo’ please come to the next week’s meeting to have your winning verified and to claim your prize.  When you win at bingo your name will automatically be entered into a drawing for a much grander prize at the end of the contest (Sept. 30).  So read your bulletins thoroughly, mark your card and come to the meeting for your winnings!  Whenever someone wins, we will mail out a new bingo card to everyone.  Sounds simple?  It is!  Sounds fun?  It will be!

Sparse attendance at our evening meeting this week we apologize for not getting a bulletin out last week.

But the New Year has started and with it a fresh commitment to Kiwanis.  Congrats to our two newest members who were voted in at the last board meeting – Dolores Bourda and Velma Johnson!

President Margaret is beginning this year with a little section of the bulletin set aside just for her weekly message to you.  Look for it!

In February we have the opportunity to attend the LA-MISS-TENN Mid Winter [N34] Conference in Natchez, MS.  I am personally going for the “knock you naked margaritas” at Fat Moma’s but that’s just me!  Anyway, if you’d like to attend, please let Christine know so that we can make room reservations.  Deadline for early bird  conference registration is January 21.  If you’d like to attend, we have registration forms or you can get one on the LA-MISS-TENN website.
