{Ed. Note:  Okay, Margaret may have fallen asleep on the job week before last, but I did last week by[B12] not including her words of wisdom in the bulletin.  My humble apologies to her and you.}

MARGARET’S WORDS OF WISDOM (written on Jan. 19):  Okay, okay I fell asleep on the job last week.  I missed the deadline.  Shouldn’t happen again.  Last week was a very productive week for me in that I had a wonderful visit with Ms. Annette Baudoin, Catahoula Elementary.  The drive there was most pleasant in itself.  Storybook afternoon.  One of my goals as your president is to let people know how great Kiwanis is and we live our Mission.  For the next several weeks our guest speakers will be the principals of our local schools.  “It’s all about the children!”  What better place to learn about children and their needs but through the schools.  Ms. Jessica Landry and Ms. Tassala Jones of ELC; Ms. Bonnie Thibodeaux, Parks Primary, did out outstanding jobs.  No doubt the children are their priority.  They do such a wonderful job!!!  Thank you.  Look[B13] forward to Partners in Education’s growth.  After speaking with a few people, I see collaboration about to happen.

THIS WEEK:

Our guest speaker this week was Principal Pam[B10] Jordan, Parks Middle School.  I was totally impressed with Ms. Jordan and the work she’s accomplishing at Parks Middle.  Kudos to you, Ms. Jordan.  She spoke about the needs of the children at her school – supplies like pencils and paper – but also the need for black or navy blue jackets for some of the kids.  She will obtain sizes needed and get back to us.

            Cheerleader Margaret (I can’t call her simply President Margaret anymore) announced that the Confirmation students at Notre Dame are adopting ELC to take care of their needs.   She is also visiting all the schools in the area and talking about Kiwanis and what we do and who we are.

            Margaret is also encouraging people to volunteer for committee assignments.  If you’ve chaired a committee before and would like to continue, please let her know.  If you are interested in a particular area of Kiwanis committee work but have not volunteered yet to get involved, please let Margaret know.

            Our Social Director for this year, Dennis LeBlanc, has announced plans for the Super Bowl Party on Feb. 6.  He is cooking Chili and his committee co-chair, Dan Berard, is obtaining enough beer for the whole evening for everyone present.  We’ll have soft drinks for those who do not want beer.  Dennis would like a head count so that he can prepare enough food.  Please call 394-9396 and say how many people will be attending.  Guests are welcome and encouraged (especially prospective members).  Snacks are welcome but not mandatory.

            Mid Winter Conference is coming up in February and those attending so far are:  Margaret & Paul Richard, Dennis & Gerry LeBlanc, Lt. Gov. Christine Berard, Carol Lagarde and Peggy Hardy.  If anyone else would like to attend, please contact Christine.
