THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction
in knowing you did your best to become the best
you are[G57] capable of becoming. –John Wooden

The Third Object of Kiwanis: To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

Kiwanis Education #52:  Club bylaws prevent the club from being used for any political purpose or, as a club, from actively participating in the political candidacy of any person. But this does not mean that the club cannot take[I29] an interest in public affairs. Article XIV, Section 1, of the Standard Form for Club Bylaws states, “This club shall seek, by fair discussions at its meetings and in other ways, to keep its members informed on all questions of public importance and any proposed legislation affecting the community, state, province, or nation in which this club is located.” Equal time is normally given to opposing political candidates or supporters on each side of controversial issues.

THIS[N37] WEEK:

BINGO!!!!! That’s what Christine Berard emailed loud and clear after last week’s bulletin.  If anyone else had “bingo” please let me know.  We are beginning a new bingo game with eight numbers[G60] hidden in the bulletin this week.  Perhaps we were a bit stingy doling out the numbers in the beginning.  We really want more people to win and quickly!  There will be a grab bag of prizes to draw from each time someone has bingo and all of the names will be placed in another pool for a big prize at the end of the year.

We had a good meeting this week with Cheryl Blanchard from Catahoula Elementary as our special guest and speaker.  Cheryl explained the unique demographics of Catahoula and the elementary school which has[I17] approximately 250 students in K-8 grades.  She explained that due to the budget cuts and the economy, supplies for the children will be needed most of all.  Teachers are famous for digging into their own pockets to supply things that are missing.

Margaret is still our best ambassador and will be distributing our Kiwanis brochures in local points around town where the community members can pick them up and see what we’re all about.  Margaret[061] is also working hard on filling committee assignments.  If you would be willing to volunteer and have a particular area that you’d like to help with, please let Margaret know.

Next week will be our evening meeting.  We began this evening meeting to give people who couldn’t[B10] otherwise attend meetings an opportunity for fellowship with their Kiwanis friends.  Come and join your friends next Wednesday evening!
