THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
1 Corinthians 13--A Christmas Version     --source unknown

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I’m just another decorator. If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I’m just another cook. If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing. If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir’s cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point. Love stops the cooking to hug the child. Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband. Love is kind, though harried and tired. Love doesn’t envy another’s home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens. Love doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way.  Love doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can’t. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.  Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust, but giving the gift of love will endure.

The Second Object of Kiwanis: To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

Kiwanis Education #42: The first International convention staged outside the United States and Canada was in Vienna, Austria, in 1983, marking the 20th anniversary of the organization of the Vienna club, the first in Europe. The second International convention outside North America occurred in Nice, France, in 1993.

THIS WEEK:

Peggy, thank you for the beautiful thought/quote of the week.  We all need to be reminded of what’s truly important – especially during the hustle and bustle right before Christmas.

Good meeting this week.  Sandy Fuselier Trosclair with St. Martin Rehab and Nursing Home was our guest speaker and had some really good information to share with us on their facility but also “preplanning” for our nursing home future.  Kevin Comeaux was also a guest at our meeting but he didn’t win the lottery this week.

Last week was a busy week with Foster Children Christmas Party, Pictures with Santa at ELC and the Kiwanis Board meeting.

Jean Potier has volunteered to take over secretarial duties – and we thank her for that!  Please make her job easier by reporting your service hours each week.

I’d like to ask everyone to think about reaffirming your commitment to Kiwanis for the coming year.  As you know, this is the time to begin thinking about New Year’s resolutions – so perhaps making your service organization (Kiwanis) a priority would be a really good resolution.

And we wish you a Merry Christmas …

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
