THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
Greater love hath no man than this:
that a man lay down his life for his friends.
                        John 15:13    HAPPY EASTER!

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:  To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #60:  Kiwanis was defined as “an organization for men” in the constitution adopted at the Denver Constitutional Convention in 1924. In 1987, after more than a decade of debate throughout the organization, delegates at the convention in Washington, DC, voted overwhelmingly to eliminate gender as a membership requirement. Today, about 18 percent of worldwide Kiwanis membership is female and about 29 percent of all new members are women.

THIS WEEK:

We do have a BINGO!  Marti yelled bingo last week and she sent me her card to verify.  Does anyone else have bingo?  We will skip a week and begin the week after Easter.  Please let me know if you play bingo or not.  I don’t need to mail out bulletins and bingo cards to people who are not playing the game.  I’ll be more than happy to send it to you if you do play – so let me know.  If I don’t hear from you gerryleblanc5@aol.com or 394-9396, you will not receive a game card next time.

We had a great meeting today with two guests in attendance.   Tim Dzindzio with the Hope Center and our guest speaker, Brian Staten, who is assistant principal at SMJH.  Not only were they guests, they are prospective members!  Looking forward to working with both of them.  Brian could have spoken all day about his school and the kids, and we could have listened all day.  It is really great to see someone so excited about going to work each day making a difference in the lives of children.

Larry Roy thanked those who assisted with Highway Cleanup.  He stated that they picked up 300 pounds of trash along the highway.  Larry also praised the SMSH Key Club members for their participation.  In another matter, Larry suggested that we spearhead a Day of Recognition for Dr. Fournet who has been serving the community for a very long time and continues to do so.  It was recommended that we contact his church and the City of St. Martinville to have a cooperative effort in honoring Dr. Fournet.

Jean announced that our club has been nominated as Civic Organization of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.  The banquet for that is May 12 and we are encouraged to attend.  Jean also announced that the School Board will be having a reception in Breaux Bridge on May 17, honoring the Kiwanis members who have partnered with ELC in the KRIS program.

Charlar Brew has been busy compiling a scrapbook for our club so if you have any items to contribute, contact Charlar at the library.  Margaret also mentioned that if anyone has any unused greeting cards, please pass them on to Charlar.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, GET WELL SOON TO BEN BREAUX!!!
GLAD TO HEAR YOU’RE DOING BETTER!!!!
