THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
   The smallest deed
always exceeds the grandest of intentions.

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis: To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education #24  :   The creation of a Kiwanis International Foundation was proposed in 1937 by International President F. Trafford Taylor. The foundation was publicly launched at Kiwanis International’s 25th anniversary celebration in Detroit in 1940. Walter Zeller, past governor of the Ontario-Quebec-Maritime District, initiated the foundation’s funds by donating 25 US silver dollars. These were used to decorate the anniversary cake, and slices were auctioned for a total of $5625. Today, the Kiwanis International Foundation receives more than Sl million each year in donations and bequests (plus Worldwide Service Project donations).

THIS WEEK:

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  the Kiwanis meeting next week will be held at 307 Church Street, the Court Facility.  Please note the change.  The conference room at the Sheriff’s office is being used for the auditors for 3 weeks.  So we will meet at the Court Facility for the next two Wednesdays.

McKenna Andrepont, President of the Acadiana Home School Key Club, was our guest at this week’s evening meeting.  McKenna reported on the first meeting of the year which was held Tuesday in Lafayette.  Peggy Hardy attended and stated how impressed she was with this bunch of young people.

Larry reported on KRIS program which begins on October 4 at ELC.  Best times to volunteer: Tuesdays through Thursdays and the best hours are 1:30-2:30.  If you are interested or know of someone who would like to participate, please contact Larry.  Margaret is talking to students from the technical college in early childhood development about volunteering also.

Highway cleanup will take place on October 9.  Save the date.

Steve and Christine conducted the Pepper Festival committee meeting and informed us that there will definitely be a jam session for the first part of the music and Steve is in negotiations with the Andy Smith Band to close out the festival.   The Gator Girls will perform again this year.  Jean is asking if anyone knows of new businesses and correct mailing addresses for her to send letters for sponsors.  Call her if you have any leads.

Marti’s friend Dinky (too loved to be called dog) has been diagnosed with cancer and is quickly waning.  As some of you know, Dinky has attended many of our meetings and even sang with us on occasion.   Just wanted Marti to know we’re thinking about her and Miss Dinky.
