It's golden color was believed by the Egyptians to be the glow cast by the sun god Ra.  Yellow Topaz ranges in color from a peachy blush to a deep cognac.  A gift of this gemstone is said to symbolize friendship and to strengthen one's capacity to give and receive love.

THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Life is 10 % what happens to you
and 90% how you react to it.
                   - Charles R. Swindoll

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis:  To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education #70 : Aktion clubs are Kiwanis international’s newest sponsored program, officially adopted in 2000.  Aktion club is a service club for youth and adults with disabilities, who elect officers, raise funds, and choose and conduct community-service projects with guidance from their Kiwanis sponsors. More than300 Aktion clubs are now providing their members with leadership and service opportunities. For clubs in the United States and Canada only.

THIS WEEK...

Larry’s first board meeting went well and our Lt. Gov. Philip deMahy’s presentation on the Mission Goat Project was very interesting.

Here’s what happened:

-Future board meetings will begin at 5:45 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m.

-Annie presented the minutes of the last two board meetings and they were accepted.

-Peggy gave financial balances and will have more information once the Pepper Festival funds have been completed.

L-arry announced that Peggy will be ordering membership recruitment incentive keys – bronze for one member brought in, silver for two members brought in, and gold for any member bringing three new members.

-Annie announced plans for the Foster Children Christmas Party which will be held on December 16.  A place to wrap the gifts (which will take place the weekend before the party) and transporting them to the Sterling Alexander Recreation Center were discussed.

-Carol and Judy Bonhomme announced that Pictures with Santa will take place on December 5.

-After Lt. Gov. Philip deMahy’s presentation on the Mission Goat Project, the board decided to dedicate the “from the heart” jar collections to the Mission Goat Project and match whatever funds are collected from our coffers.  Each milk goat costs $50 and affords a family in Haiti the opportunity to become self sustaining.  The collections will continue until the second week in December.

-Gerry announced that the St. Martinville Soccer League has asked for volunteers to coordinate the photographer and the teams at Magnolia Park on November 14 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mike Fuselier at 394-5720 or just show up.
