THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

To give pleasure to a single heart by a single kind act is better than a thousand head-bowings in prayer. —Saddi

The Sixth Object of Kiwanis:    To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism, which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Kiwanis Education: From 1915 to 1919, the organization of new Kiwanis clubs was managed by a professional organizer, Allen Simpson Browne, who can be credited with creating Kiwanis. In return for building new clubs, he received a portion of every new membership fee. This arrangement led to increasing controversy about the purpose and control of the organization. The problem was solved when Kiwanis International ~‘bought itself’ from Browne at the 1919 convention in Birmingham, Alabama. Club delegates raised S 17,500 on the convention floor to purchase Browne’s rights to the Kiwanis name and organization.

THIS WEEK:  The first day of Spring (Sunday) was well hidden behind the cold weather.  Can you believe?

At the meeting this week, Larry thanked all board members who attended the meeting last Thursday.  Margaret reported on the progress of the Jr. High Builders Club.  They are getting their foundation built for a great beginning next school year and have the great support of the school principal.

He also announced the new memberships of Doug Melancon and Donna Andrepont.  Donna is the faculty advisor of our Home School Key Club.  We welcome both new members and look forward to working with you.

Larry also reported on the new restrictions and requirements for Highway cleanup.  It was decided at the board meeting that the club would discontinue this project due to the red tape and hoops involved.

It was also suggested that we have a brunch with our sponsored youth at a date in the near future.  Ben Breaux volunteered to chair this project.  If anyone would like to be part of this committee, please call Ben.

Speaker getter for April is Suzanne deMahy who is asking for someone to swap months with her.

On that same note, Gerry was not able to get a speaker for this week and gave a very brief program on the re-accreditation of the Sheriff’s office and the work that is entailed.

Next Tuesday is the Acadiana Home School Key Club Charter Meeting at the Southside Library in Lafayette at 3:30 p.m. We encourage your participation in this event.  Thanks!
