THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

A good listener is not only popular everywhere,
but after a while he gets to know something.
                     – Wilson  Mizner

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis:     To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #16:   The first Object of Kiwanis International is “To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.”

THIS WEEK:

“Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.”  Please ponder on these words.  In order for us to change the world for children, we need to be involved in our service organization, a.k.a. Kiwanis.  Summer tends to be a lazier time for all of us but we need to continue showing up so that when a child needs our help, we’re here and ready to lend a hand.

That being said, our meeting was sparse this week.  But it was a great meeting.  I’m sorry you missed it.  Christine and Steve were our speakers and they gave status reports on the Pepper Festival, including jam session, queen’s pageant, tee shirt design and beer license.

As Lt. Gov.-Elect for Division 17, Christine announced the club leadership training on July 17 at the Fire Training Center in Lafayette.  The cost is $10 per person to defray meal expenses.  Everyone is invited to attend.  I am encouraging people from our club to attend.  All of us will benefit from the wealth of information there will be offered that day.  And our club will reimburse your $10 fee.  But in order for them to prepare the food, please tell Christine if you’re able to attend.

President-Elect Margaret Richard announced that the Teche News and The Times of Acadiana are both interested in a spread about our Every Child A Swimmer project.  We look forward to that happening!

Next week is our evening meeting at 6:00 p.m. and Steve and Christine will be working on Pepper Festival with us.  Please make every effort to attend this meeting.
