THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

The meaning of life lies in two major areas:  your personal perfection and service to other people. You can serve while you are moving toward perfection, and you can move toward perfection by serving people.  ~  Leo Tolstoy

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis: To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #19: A “service project” is defined by Kiwanis International as “an activity, consistent with the Objects, objectives, and policies of Kiwanis International, which is devised or planned by a Kiwanis club or a club committee and performed by members of the club for the benefit of others.”

THIS WEEK:

Anthony Russo, affiliated with the ARC of St. Martin, was our guest speaker this Wednesday morning.  Excellent program on ARC and all the programs they conduct.  Very informative and makes us grateful to have such good programs in our community for our developmentally challenged adults!  I’m sorry if you missed the meeting and the program.  It was worth getting up early.  Thanks, Doug, for bringing Anthony to our meeting.

The training conference last Saturday was well attended and the participants had praise for the information that they came away with.

We nominated Dan and Christine Berard to be our delegates at the district convention.  The good thing and the bad thing is that there was no contest.  They are the only ones going to the convention – it’s a cruise this year – and Christine will be installed as our 2010-11 Lt. Governor.

Larry gave a report on the upcoming Canoe Race slated for Sept. 17-19.  He informed us that Craig Prosper will be coordinating St. Martinville’s participation in this even.  As the date comes closer, we will have sign up sheets for volunteers to participate.  Larry is also going to ask Craig to come speak at one of our meetings to give us more information about the plans.

Larry also asked the membership to be considering a new service project which could be ongoing and more Kiwanians could participate.  Put on your thinking caps, look around your community, and see what you can come up with as far as ideas and suggestions.

Peggy is at the beach this week, yours truly will be in Las Vegas gambling her husband’s hard-earned money next week, and I’m not exactly sure when our third cohort, Marti, will be un-MIA. But know that rain or shine, vacay or staycay, WE WILL DO OUR DARNEDEST TO GET THE JOB DONE.
