THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

All are born for a reason, but all of us don’t discover why.
Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life,
      or accomplish for yourself.
It’s what you do for others. —Danny Thomas

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:  To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #2: Kiwanis was created by a professional organizer named Allen Simpson Browne. His concept for the new organization included the exchange of business among the members. However, the Detroit club had been organized only a few weeks when the members became involved in their first service project. During the next five years, Kiwanians would debate the basic purpose of the organization: mutual business exchange or community service.

THIS WEEK...

Baby, it’s still cold outside.”
I hope everyone is staying warm and safe.

Carol Lagarde was once again our speaker.  She was actually standing in for her neice and Dan & Christine’s daughter, Adrienne Berard.  “Adie“ prepared and Carol delivered a wonderful presentation on de-cluttering one’s home.  It was very informative and interesting.  Her statement, ”You don’t need to be perfectly organized.  You just need to be organized enough so that you can live your life, enjoy your friends and family, and not waste time, money, and energy on clutter and chaos.“ Well, that sounds good to me, it’s just getting it done is the problem.

Carol also introduced her guest, Rhonda Hebert, a prospective new member, who is anxious to get started in our KRIS program – Kiwanis Reading In Schools.

Two of our Kiwanians will be traveling to far away places to hug on grandkids.  Annie and Ed will go to Calif. to get to know their new granddaughter, and Carol and Hank will get to experience warmth in both climate and hugs in Hawaii with their son and his family.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Kiwanian Marlene R. Payne on the loss of her grandbaby, Sambrea Marlene Champagne, who died on Jan. 11.  Pellerin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WORTH MENTIONING AGAIN:

Mid Winter Conference is Saturday in Lafayette.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with other Kiwanians from our area and see what they are doing in their clubs and to share some of the great things that we are doing in our club.  If you’d like to attend, you can register at the door.  So far, the people who have said that they are going: Larry Roy, Margaret Richard, Christine Berard, and Judy Bonhomme.

In that same vein, the District convention this summer will be At Sea!  Aug. 12-16 departing from New Orleans, sailing to Cozumel and back on the Carnival Cruise Ship Triumph.  Our own Christine Berard will be installed as next year’s Lt. Governor on the cruise ship.  Anyone interested in going, please check out conferences on our district website – www.lamisstenn.org
