THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Man’s worst sin towards our fellow creatures
          is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them;
             that’s the essence of inhumanity.
                              —George Bernard Shaw

The Third Object of Kiwanis:  To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

Kiwanis Education: Every Child A Swimmer (ECAS) is the brain child of Christine Berard.  At a Kiwanis International Convention in Miami, Christine first heard about this great project and brought it back to us!  In cooperation with the City of St. Martinville Pool personnel, the St. Martinville Kiwanis have dedicated themselves to provide each kindergarten student in the town of St. Martinville with the opportunity to take free swimming lessons for 1 week. The program is being managed by Edna Landry, general manager and consultant for the St. Martinville City Pool. The lessons will be staffed and taught by experienced swimming instructors, with help from local Kiwanis, Key Club, and Builders Club members.  Lifeguards supervising the swim program will be licensed Ellis & Associates lifeguards who are fully equipped and trained to provide optimum safety for all.

THIS WEEK...

Mayor Thomas Nelson was our guest speaker.  His topics of information consisted of: Talley property, street overlay and Old Wal-Mart.  Larry and Annie both extended thanks to the Mayor and his daughter, Lisa, for the Christmas gifts that they provided for the Foster Parents.

Please remember that we will have an evening meeting next week and that the Board meeting and Pepper Festival Wrap meetings will be at Gerry’s house on Jan. 21, with supper included.  Check the calendar of events for times.  Also coming up in January on the 17th  is the Mid Winter Conference where you will have an opportunity to meet with other members from Region VI and elect a new regional trustee.  Robert Benoit has served us well in this capacity for the last 3 years and we thank him for his service.  We need to have a headcount of those wanting to attend in order for us to pay the registration fees.  Please advise Larry if you want to attend.

When Larry distributes the agenda each week, there are some neat things for us to ponder and to do.  I’m going to share a couple of them right here:

     Larry requests that if you’d like to share an experience, 5 minute maximum, with a handout, please let him know.  He is also asking for you to jot down your ideas, suggestions, complaints, insights and give them to him.  His contact information is – lnsroy@cox.net

Editor’s Note:  I would like to ask you to consider chairing the Pepper Festival this coming year.  With all of the wonderful co-chairs that are in place, being the chairperson is EASY!  It’s kind of like being the orchestra leader – they do all the work, you wave your wand!   Gerry

Happy New Year, everyone!
