THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Lord, be born in my heart.
Come alive in me this Christmas.
                                           Amen
                             – Christmas Prayer/Apple Seeds

The Third Object of Kiwanis:  To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

Kiwanis Education #73: Kiwanis dues cannot be claimed as a personal tax deduction. As nonprofit corporations, Kiwanis clubs do not pay taxes on income. But Kiwanis clubs do not qualify as deductible charities for members or donors who provide the club’s income. This is why some clubs, districts, and Kiwanis International have established charitable foundations to receive tax-deductible donations for service purposes.

THIS WEEK...

Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to all!

Kudos to Annie Durand and her elves who pulled off another very successful Foster Children Christmas Party last week!   Everyone pitched in to make it the great party that it was.  Special thanks to Builders and Key Club, Mayor Nelson and Lisa Nelson (gifts for the parents), Elaine St. Julien and Ruth Sweeney (candy canes), and of course, Santa - for their participation.

Our meeting was a little slim this morning but we did manage to conduct a reasonable meeting.
      Here’s what happened:

Next week we will have a morning meeting on Wednesday.
Dennis LeBlanc won a little over $20 today in lottery.  Unfortunately, that exceptional luck has not carried over into deer hunting YET this season!
Larry thanked Annie and Margaret Richard and all who participated in Foster Party.
Jean presented Gerry with Pepper Festival “thank you” gift card, in appreciation for her work as chair.
Peggy announced that we have $534 to present to New Iberia Kiwanis for the milk goat project.  We will attend a meeting and present the check.
We clarified that the board meetings will be changed back to the 3rd Thursday of the month and that we will continue to have an evening meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.

Gerry announced that we have the opportunity to elect a new Regional Trustee at the Mid Winter Conference in January.  She also volunteered to take Annie’s place as Sec. while she and Ed are in Calif. for a month with their new granddaughter.

Todd D’Albor, with the St. Martinville Police Department, gave us a very interesting overview of the Dept. and what he sees happening in St. Martinville as far as criminal incidents, or the lack thereof, are concerned.

We take this time to express our sincere condolences to Annie Durand on the recent loss of her sister, Dru Dugas, and to Dan and Christine Berard on the loss of his mother, Mrs. Velma Berard.  Her funeral is at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
