THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Lord, I thank you for the blessing of this new day.
May I use it to reflect your presence in all my thoughts, words and actions,
so that these hours might end with the world a bit better and someone’s life a bit happier
           because of my efforts.   --Anonymous

The Third Object of Kiwanis:  To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

Kiwanis Education #74: Kiwanis dues cannot be claimed as a personal tax deduction. As nonprofit corporations, Kiwanis clubs do not pay taxes on income. But Kiwanis clubs do not qualify as deductible charities for members or donors who provide the club’s income. This is why some clubs, districts, and Kiwanis International have established charitable foundations to receive tax-deductible donations for service purposes.

THIS WEEK...

We had a “twofer” this week.  Two meetings in one place at one time – board meeting, then regular meeting.  The board meeting was conducted by President Elect Margaret Richard in the absence of our president.  At the board meeting the following things happened:

• The adoption of the minutes of the last board meeting.

• The adoption of the budget for the year.

• Discussion about whether foster children could be photographed for newspaper.

• Request for a publicity committee to get our message out to the news media.  Steve Comeaux, Gerry LeBlanc and
possibly one other member will work together to get the photos and blurbs out to the Teche News every week.

Following the board meeting,
President Larry entered the meeting and distributed agendas.  Annie Durand put money in the pagan goat cup in honor of her brand new granddaughter, Noelani Evangeline Durand, who was born on Wednesday morning in California.  All are doing well.

Larry thanked Steve and Carol for their work with Pictures with Santa, and Annie for the Foster Children Christmas Party.

Elaine shared her experiences with the KRIS program – Kiwanians Reading In Schools.  Larry also shared with the club a Christmas/Thank you card from everyone at ELC.

President Larry (you can take the teacher out of the classroom, but you can’t take the classroom out of the teacher) gave us a TEST – 4 questions to answer – and we had to hand in our papers!  Grades will be handed out in the near future!
