THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. —Vince Lombardi

The Fifth Object of Kiwanis: To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.

Kiwanis Education #23:   Kiwanis International’s first Worldwide Service Project was initiated in 1993 and formally launched in 1994. The project is designed to eliminate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) as a world health problem. Iodine is an essential micronutrient in the human diet. About 1 .5 billion people live in iodine-deficient areas of the world, and half of them are children.

THIS WEEK:

Our meeting this week was well attended.  I think that the beginning of school always brings the resolutions to get back on track with schedules and commitments.  Thanks for that!

Craig Prosper, St. Martinville City Councilman, was our guest speaker.  Craig spoke about the upcoming canoe race and our participation in said race.  He also gave us information concerning projects that are in the works for our city.

McKenna Andrepont, President of the Acadiana Home School Key Club, was also present at our meeting.  She informed the club that the first meeting will be held on August 31 at the Southside Library in Lafayette from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Larry took a poll of the membership present to see if we were willing to continue with trash pickup at a new location (that being Hwy. 92 between 347 and 31).  10 to 12 members will be needed.  Are you willing to assist?  It will be sometime in October.  And we will not be affiliated with the La. DOTD or Beautification Project.

Larry also advised that he will be going to meet at ELC this week or next to set up this year’s KRIS program.  If you can volunteer, or know of someone who could help out, please let Larry know.

Here is a brief report on the board meeting:  $500 maximum for dictionaries; canoe race award $50 max.; charge of $500 for the big politicians at PF; Oct. 6 date of Installation banquet; $700 for Kiwanians Dan and Christine for room and registration for District Convention; tax filing information from Charlie Ford.

Next week’s meeting will be an evening meeting in the kitchen at the Sheriff’s office at 6:00 p.m.
