The Fifth Object of Kiwanis: To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities. Kiwanis Education #63 : Builders Club is a Kiwanis-sponsored service club for students in junior high and middle schools. Each Builders Club is a local project of its sponsoring Kiwanis club, and there is no district or International Builders Club structure. More than 1,000 Builders Clubs currently are sponsored by Kiwanis clubs to provide service and leadership experiences to junior high and middle school students. |

THIS WEEK... I’m sorry if you missed the meeting this week. President Dennis put on another hat and was our guest speaker. As you probably all know, Dennis is Mr. Emergency Preparedness! Therefore, he spoke to us about how to be prepared for natural emergencies and gave out wonderful booklets to each of us with lists of what we need to do, have, and bring in the case of hurricanes or other natural disasters. If you missed the meeting and didn’t get the handout, please ask Dennis.
This week we also had committee meetings for Installation Banquet and Pepper Festival.
PLEASE SAVE THESE DATES: October 7, 2009 Installation Banquet (6:00 p.m.) October 18, 2009 Pepper Festival (ALL DAY)
Our sponsored youth are gearing up for another wonderful year. These groups are: Trinity Catholic Builders Club, SMSH Key Club and Acadiana Home School Key Club. If you’re interested in helping with our sponsored you organizations, or any one of them, Builders Club is especially in need of a Kiwanis advisor to liaison with Ms. Edna. Their meetings are monthly at 1:00 p.m. on the second Friday.
K.R.I.S. = Kiwanians Reading In Schools Our newest project to make a difference in the lives of the children of our city. Larry Roy is spearheading this project and is signing up volunteers to read to kids at ELC. Jessica Landry will be attending our meeting next week to assist with any questions we may have about how this will work at her school. Larry is also encouraging us to each get someone else (a non-Kiwanian) to volunteer with us, thereby expanding the services that we can provide. If you can donate an hour or less – once a week – please do! And if you’re not sure whether this project is for you, come to the meeting and hear what it’s all about and ask your questions.
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! Highway cleanup will be Oct. 2 and Larry has his signup sheet at every meeting ready to get you to help out. Please be generous with your time. |
