THOUGHT/QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
The key is to get to know people and trust them to be who they are.
Instead, we trust people to be who we want them to be—
and when they’re not, we cry.

–David Duchovny

Sadly, we announce the death of our Gutekunst clan’s brother-in-law, acclaimed artist and professor, Elemore Morgan, Jr.  Carol, Christine, Dan and Annie, you have our deepest sympathy.  An awesome man has gone to paint the landscapes and rice fields of Heaven!

The Fourth Object of Kiwanis:
To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Kiwanis Education #02:  Kiwanis was created by a professional organizer named Allen Simpson Browne. His concept for the new organization included the exchange of business among the members. However, the Detroit club had been organized only a few weeks when the members became involved in their first service project. During the next five years, Kiwanians would debate the basic purpose of the organization: mutual business exchange or community service.

THIS WEEK:  Hooray!!  Our Every Child A Swimmer project was a huge success despite Mother Nature’s display last Thursday.  Many thanks to all the Kiwanis volunteers who came out to help with the project.  I also need to tell you that without our Builders Club, we could not run this project.  Many thanks to Kiwanian Edna Landry and her Builders Club members!  Chair Christine Berard did an excellent job of pre-project organization!  I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the Kiwanians who spent 6 hours per day – every day – at the pool , helping:  Edna Landry, Jean Potier, Annie Durand, Leslie Thibodeaux and Larry Roy.

Next week our speaker will be Thomas Jolivette, who will give us an overview of the Teen Court Program in St. Martinville.

Our meeting location had to be changed at the last minute this week due to Auditors invading our space at the Sheriff’s Office.  How dare them?  Thanks to Kiwanian Paul deMahy for hosting the meeting at the courthouse Wednesday morning.  We should be back at our location next week but if they are still occupying our space, we will have signs posted at the SO directing you to the courthouse again.

Our Bike Safety Project will be held on June 7 at the St. Martin Parish Library.  Margot Addison is the chair for this project.  The project begins at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Martinville Library.

I hope everyone has
 a wonderful
 Memorial Day
 weekend!
